What Is Alas Pilipinas?

Alas Pilipinas is the official banner used by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) for all national volleyball teams representing the country in international competitions. This unified program covers the men’s and women’s indoor teams as well as the men’s and women’s beach volleyball teams. The name symbolizes the Philippines’ top players—its “ace” representatives—competing under one identity in regional and global tournaments. For the SEA Games 2025, all volleyball delegations will compete under the Alas Pilipinas name.

Women’s Volleyball Lineup

A strong blend of UAAP standouts and seasoned PVL veterans will headline Alas Pilipinas Women as the team enters the 33rd SEA Games with one of its deepest and most competitive rosters in recent history. In total, the country is fielding a combined roster of indoor and beach volleyball players, forming a unified squad built on youth, experience, and international exposure.

Jia Morado–De Guzman continues to lead the squad and will share playmaking duties with Mars Alba, giving the team stability and experience at the setter position. Head coach Jorge Souza De Brito, now on his third SEA Games campaign, once again guides the group.

On the wings, the Philippines brings one of its deepest rotations in years. Bella Belen, Angel Canino, Eya Laure, Vanie Gandler, Alleiah Malaluan, and Shaina Nitura provide a balanced mix of power, athleticism, and versatility. Alyssa Solomon, fresh from her stint in Japan’s V.League, strengthens the opposite position with improved international experience.

The middle blocker unit is backed by height and maturity, led by Dell Palomata, Maddie Madayag, and Amie Provido, all capable of contributing on both offense and defense. The team’s backcourt remains a key asset, with elite liberos Dawn Macandili-Catindig and Justine Jazareno anchoring floor defense and serve reception.

Many members of this lineup also played major roles in the Philippines’ breakthrough performances over the past year, including a finals appearance in the AVC Nations Cup and strong outings in the SEA V.League. De Guzman, Palomata, and Canino were even named to the AVC Mythical Team. With momentum behind them, Alas Pilipinas eyes a semifinal berth and hopes to finally end the country’s two-decade medal drought in women’s volleyball.

Beyond the indoor lineup, the Philippines is also sending a strong delegation to the sand courts as the women’s beach volleyball team prepares for its own SEA Games campaign.

Leading the charge are veterans Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons, a duo whose chemistry and experience make them the cornerstone of the team’s medal hopes. The pair last competed together in the 2021 SEA Games, where they delivered a bronze finish, and now return with even more international exposure under their belts. Rondina brings her credentials as a former FIVB World Tour podium finisher, while Pons adds the steadiness of a two-time SEA Games bronze medalist, making them one of the region’s most seasoned tandems.

Supporting the main pair is a reliable cast composed of Dij Rodriguez, Sunny Villapando, and Gen Eslapor, all of whom have logged valuable experience in Asian circuit events and PNVF-sanctioned tournaments. Their presence gives Alas Pilipinas depth and flexibility, ensuring the coaching staff has multiple combinations to work with throughout the competition.

With veteran leadership, continuity from past international campaigns, and a roster built for both stability and tactical versatility, the beach volleyball team enters the 33rd SEA Games aiming to break through the standings and deliver a podium finish for the Philippines.

A dynamic mix of overseas pros, Spikers’ Turf standouts, and rising collegiate talents will represent Alas Pilipinas Men at the 33rd SEA Games. With a deep indoor roster and a battle-tested beach volleyball delegation, the Philippines enters the tournament prepared for tough regional competition.

Alas Pilipinas is fielding a gritty and battle-tested beach volleyball lineup highlighted by long-time national team pillars Ran Abdilla and James Buytrago. Both players have delivered multiple SEA Games bronze medals, with Buytrago earning podium finishes in 2019 and 2023, and Abdilla matching those achievements with different partners in the last two editions.

Their momentum is underscored by a dominant showing in the recent Beach Volleyball Invitational, where Abdilla and Buytrago swept the finals against fellow national teammates Ronniel Rosales and Rancel Vargas, 21–12, 21–10, to clinch the championship without dropping a set. The delegation also includes Edwin Tolentino, completing a unit familiar with regional competition and capable of high-level play.

The Philippines has earned six SEA Games bronze medals—three from the men’s division and three from the women’s—since beach volleyball became a medal sport in 2003. With an experienced and cohesive lineup, the men’s beach team enters the 33rd SEA Games determined to secure a fourth consecutive podium finish.
